In the process of leap-forward development of China’s high-speed rail(HSR),the sustainable of HSR is facing two difficult problems.The first is the weak profitability and poor efficiency of investment on large scale HSR.China Railways Corporation(CRC)is heavily indebted.Second,the HSR development is too fast.But line network planning theory is incomplete and development disharmony with railway construction.Part of the programming are unreasonable and unscientific that lack of attention to invisible benefit.Based on the above issues,research on the network planning of HSR based on the return of investment is proposed.In order to solve the problems on the planning stage and provide effective network planning theory and methods for the sustainable of HSR.Analyze the total investment and unit costs of HSR which designed speed are 350 kph and 250 kph.The unit costs are 1.3228 trillion yuan and 0.5442 trillion yuan respectively.Return of investment falls into two parts,one is operating profit which is from ticket.And the other is invisible profit which is from economic benefit and strategic position promotion.Using MATLAB software and selecting 48 nodes which located in south of China according nodes’ location planning.Population,economic level and strategic position are the elements of nodes importance.The index weights are calculated by the combination of analytic hierarchy process(AHP)and entropy method.Grey correlation analysis method is use for establishing nodes importance degree model.Then,the importance degree sorted from smallest to largest.The importance degree of the line is computed by gravity model.The coordinate system conversion in geographical information system is used to conversions and distance calculation.The distance model is established to seek effective nodes in the path planning.The importance degree threshold is determined to seek HRS line through complete graphs.Finally,Shanghai-Kunming HSR is planed for the evaluating of path planning.The route that generated by distance model is contrasted with the planning of eight horizontals and eight verticals.On the network evaluation,9 urban circles are generated by the first model which is investment benefits maximized of unit distance.These urban circles can correspond with development planning of our nation.The backbone networks can also generated by the second model that the sum of importance degree is maximized.This network could cover the main urban circle and move travellers around the place in large numbers contrast with eight horizontal and eight vertical planning.It’s providing a reference theory and methods for HSR Planning in our country.
