The Influence Of Driver's Mind Wandering On Driving Behavior In Expressway Driving

The phenomenon of mind wandering is prevalent in human daily life.When the individual is thinking,the brain is in a conscious state of mind,and the individual's thoughts are focused on the current main task,but when the individual's thoughts are divorced from the current task and move to individual's past,current and future of personal related tasks,it would greatly reduce the control of the current main task,they formed a mental wander,which also known as endogenous cognitive distraction.Driving distractions are also part of cognitive distractions,and most of the existing studies related to driving distractions are focused on external stimulate that lead to exogenous driving distractions or sub-tasking distractions,such as answering Telephone,car navigation,other vehicles and pedestrians in the road environment,and signs on both sides of the road.The relevant research that the impact which the endogenous recognition distraction refers to the mental migration brought to driving behavior is very few.The process of driving a car in a normal state,is the state that the driver focusing individual's thoughts on the main driving task;and when individual's thought broke away from the current task,transferred to the personal tasks which related to thinking about processing the individual's past,present and future personal related tasks,the phenomenon of mental wandering is appeared,at this time the driver's controlling force to vehicle,the perceptivity to road environment and decision-making are significantly reduced.Distraction driving is gravely damaging traffic safety,improving the odds of traffic accidents.Basing on the research results and experimental methods of mental shift and driving distraction at home and abroad,this paper designs an experiment that the inducement and detection of driver's wander in the case of expressway driving which was accomplished by the driving simulator of Zhejiang Industrial University's Industrial Design Innovation Service Platform Laboratory.In this paper,4 different drivers with different operating proficiency and different driving styles were selected as the research object,and the parameters related to the state of the vehicle when the driver was wandering,the vehicle running state and the surrounding environment state parameters were collected.Through the use of eye movement instrument and driving behavior recorder.Then the data is manually analyzed by manually intercepting the required data and drawing an intuitive linear comparison chart.By simulating driving experiments,we have confirmed that meatal waver has a very high frequency during driving.When the mind wandering,the driver's pupil size and blinks are significantly changed,and the controlling force to the steering wheel and the perceptivity of the road environment are significantly reduced,resulting in changes in vehicle operating conditions.Through the above research and comparative analysis,the emergence of mental shift in the driving process is effectively identified.Finally,the article provides practical suggestions and help to the driving group through the test methods and research conclusions about the phenomenon of the mind wandering in the driving process,and also provides some theoretical guidance and suggestions for the future research.
