With the wide application ranging from military to toys for playing,electric remote control model aircraft gradually step into families.The electric drive system is a very vital part which decides whether the electric remote control aircraft model can fly normally or not.With the continuous depletion of traditional energy sources,application of new energy sources,especially solar energy,is increasing broadly day after day,as a result of which,researches on solar helicopter become very meaningful.The permanent magnet brushless motors are used most widely on remote control model aircrafts,which is outstanding for the advantaged functions of rapid response,large starting torque and ability of providing rated torque from zero speed to rated speed.In this paper,an efficient,low-speed and large torque permanent magnet brushless motor is designed.The autor first analyzed the background and significance of researches on electric remote control model airplanes,and pointed out the current defect that the fly time of electric model aircraft is too short,while solar model helicopter not only meet the green requirements,but also has the ability to fly permanently.As the development of solar-powered aircraft is not yet mature,the propulsion system of solar model aircraft has to use a new efficient motor.Due to the limited experimental conditions,the motor power is set at 30W.According to the motor power,the number of solar panels is calculated and then the airfoil and size of paddle are determined.Then,the rotational speed and torque of the propeller are determined.Finally,the motor speed and torque are determined.The results of a series of tests on the motor show that a large diameter motor has low speed but large torque.However,if the motor is too big,the entire model will become overweight.A small motor has high speed but small torque,while it's too light.so the acceleration and deceleration gear is used to achieve the motor's low speed and high torque but not too light.Set the moter's reduction ratio to identify the key performance parameters of the motor and calculate the size of stator and other performance parameters of the electric motor.The Maxwell is used to verify the calculated data.The Pro/e is used to draw the three-dimensional diagram of the motor and the engineering drawing,and make and test the motor.
