This paper carries out the research work on series arc fault in a low voltage power supply and distribution system.The characteristics of series arc fault are studied deeply.Finally,the signals produced by series arc fault and their characteristics in time and frequency domain are obtained.This research has great theoretical value for the reliable operation of power system.Firstly,a series arc fault experiment system has been developed in this paper.Secondly,the steady and intermittent arc experiments under different voltage,current and power factor are carried out.Meanwhile,the voltage and current signals in the experiment are collected.Thirdly,the harmonic analysis of the current is carried out by using fast Fourier transform.The relationship between the total harmonic distortion and the experimental conditions is investigated.Then,a notch filter is used to eliminate the power frequency components in the original current.After that,the time frequency spectrum of filtered signal is plotted by Hilbert Huang transform,and the series arc fault signal is extracted.Finally,the mean value of spectrum and instantaneous frequency,variance of instantaneous frequency and instantaneous frequency bandwidth are extracted from the time-frequency spectrum.The results show that the characteristics of time domain,frequency domain and time-frequency domain can accurately and effectively describe the series arc fault,which provides a powerful theoretical basis for its diagnosis.
