Shape-changing mechanisms mainly refer to shape-changing rigid-body mechanisms, whose shapes can be changed through the movement.Because of their changeable shapes, their implementation capacity is strong, enough to adapt to different work requirements. The shape-changing rigid-body mechanism is based on the given design profiles,through a series of profile transformation to form rigid chain, and then execute rigid chain synthesis to match the design profiles.First of all, because the design profiles are usually a series of irregular spline curves. Different types of design profiles are analyzed and compared in the paper. In order to make the design profiles meet the matching precision and simplify the design, it is necessary to transform the design profiles to form a mean profile to match the design profiles with high accuracy. At the same time, the calculation method that transforms design profile to mean profile is introduced in this paper. In order to reduce the computational complexity in the process of profile transformation and improve the calculation accuracy, a calculation software is compiled,which makes the design calculation of shape-changing rigid-body mechanism easier to operate.Secondly, not only the structure synthesis method of the shape-changing rigid-body mechanism is given, but also the advantages and disadvantages of several methods and application situations are compared in this paper. At the same time, according to the vector method, it is proposed that the complexity of the mechanism synthesis can be simplified by using the mathematical calculation software, then the comprehensive result can be seen and selected intuitively, so the synthesis process of the shape-changing rigid-body mechanism can be optimized.Finally, in order to verify the effectiveness of the design method, the corresponding design examples are set, and some practical applications of shape-changing rigid-body mechanism are put forward, which proposes the practical application of shape-changing rigid-body mechanism.
