Imbalanced traffic flows in different directions is one of the reason caused signalized intersections congestion in city roads. Especially for widen intersections with large traffic flows, left-turn vehicles will occupy the straight lanes on account of increasing queuing vehicles, thereby affecting the normal passage of the straight vehicles. It is an effective way to relieve traffic congestion to implement variable lane. Therefore, this paper will study the left-turn variable threshold condition through the queuing length between left-turn vehicles and straight ones.In this paper, queuing length, saturability, traffic capacity and delay are explored to study the left-turn variable threshold condition. Firstly, this paper introduce research background, significance, current situation and research contents, and propose the concept, channelization condition, traffic condition and signal timing of variable lane.Different queuing length models are also introduced. Though the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of various models, it can confirmed the appropriate one.And then, through the research of the relationship between queuing length and saturability, together with whether existing the initial queuing vehicles in intersections,it analyzed the left-turn variable lane threshold condition in different saturabilities. Then, the relationship between the main pre-coordinated control signal is left-turn variable lane attribute transition theoretical derivation and analysis, Finally to simulate the vehicles running track state before and after implementation of left-turn variable lane control at the signalized intersection the method of simulation were used. By comparing the delay and queuing length analysis, the result proved that left-turn variable lane control at the signalized intersection can effectively reduce delays and queue length of vehicles...
