With the rapid development of China's economy, the continuous increase of national income and the improvement of living standards of citizens, safety, convenience, comfort during the travel have become new requirements. Previous travel standard which only targets at achieving movement of people is unable to meet the needs of travelers. Service level of transportation such as air and high-way is increasing rapidly, which leads to the increasingly competitive environment for railway in the transportation industry. Therefore,how to improve the quality of railway transport service under the premise of ensuring the transport capacity has become a new subject of railway operation and management department.Under the new form of railway development, the periodic operation of train has become an effective solution to improve the level and the service quality of railway operation management. Based on the existing research, the characteristics, key technologies of timetabling, and the model of periodic train working diagram are studied.Firstly, through the analysis of the operation situation, operation characteristics and railway network situation of countries that adopt periodic train working diagram, the applicable conditions of periodic train working diagram are summarized. Combined with the status of high-speed rail network of China, it can be concluded that periodic train working diagram can be adopted in part of high-speed rail lines. The study also expounds the advantages of periodic train working diagram and the limitations of practical application.Secondly, by analyzing the timetabling principles and the procedures of train working diagram, the study chooses the key technologies to do the method study, including using the shortest time to schedule all kinds of trains as the length of a period, evenly scheduling working diagram to the maximum degree under the premise of sufficient capacity. Besides,the study considers connection between trans-line trains and OD passenger flow,and makes optimization and adjustment to methods such as deleting train path and changing the sequence of train paths for periodic train working diagram.Thirdly, the paper introduces the periodic event scheduling problem (PESP), and applies its idea of dealing with periodic events to the generation of periodic train working diagram. Besides,the study builds a periodic train working diagram generation model whose objective function aims to achieve the shortest travel time. In addition, the study establishes heuristic search algorithm based on conflicts solving strategies,to solve periodic train working diagram generation model.Finally, by using Chengdu-Chongqing passenger dedicated railways as a case study, the paper conducts an empirical analysis for the proposed model, and computes the length of one period which is in accord with actual situation and train operation plan, based on procedures and methods of periodic working diagram generation in Chapter 3 and the existing operation plan of Chengdu-Chongqing passenger-dedicated railways. Then,the study arranges starting point of trains. Next, generation of the unit periodic train working diagram is completed, and the corresponding daylong periodic train working diagram adjustment scheme is given according to the algorithm of the model in Chapter 4.
