Lateral effect enhanced penetration(PELE)is a new type of ammunition with penetrator and grenade function.As a new concept of damage element,the shell is decomposed into a large number of fragments after penetrating the target plate,which can effectively kill the target.PELE is mainly used for air-defense,anti-missile,anti-light armor and urban operations etc.In this paper,theoretical analysis and numerical simulation are used to study some factors of affecting PELE damage performance.The results can provide some references for the development of PELE.The followings are the main contents of this dissertation: Numerical algorithm of PELE is improved,SPH algorithm and Lagrange algorithm are applied to the numerical simulation of penetration of PELE into metal target,the physical image of the penetration process is obtained and compared with the experimental phenomena,it is concluded that SPH algorithm is better than Lagrange algorithm;The effect of projectile core material on the lateral effect of PELE is studied by SPH algorithm,researching on the damage performance of PELE projectile from hardness and density of core material;The structure of PELE is studied by SPH algorithm,researching on the damage performance of PELE projectile from Damage performance of combined projectile core PELE,effect of cushion block material and thickness on PELE projectile penetrating into concrete;Study on the effect of composite armor PELE vertical penetration,analysis of influence of PELE on the damage effect of different composite armor and laminated composite armor on the lateral effect of PELE,laying the foundation for future research on PELE defense.
