The channel is an important component of the port. The determination of the navigable capacity is a basic work to plan the reservoir area.It is also an important basis for judging the traffic management and traffic conditions. In the process of pre-planning,design and post-operation and management of the reservoir area, the accurate calculation of the navigation capacity of the channel has important economic benefits. At the same time,it has certain reference value in the similar engineering application. However, the channel is a comprehensive and complex system involving a number of random factors(such as hydrological and meteorological conditions)and complex physical mechanisms(such as reservoir operation scheduling process),which is difficult to be accurately describe by the conventional analytical mathematical model. For example,a berth in the course of the operation involves a lot of random processes, such as ship to port, queuing loading and unloading operations, and many other external environmental factors. Therefore, there is a big difficulty in calculate the navigable capacity accurately in this complex case. The simulation of system number is a dynamic event model. It can simulate the test by analyzing the main random process in the channel system and according to the actual situation of the channel. Not only is this method fast and convenient, but can reflect the operation of the channel in real time and identify bottlenecks so that it can optimize the design. In this paper, the system numerical simulation method is used to analyze the navigable capacity of the channel, which mainly includes the following aspects:(1)The main random processes of the channel composition system are analyzed, which include the characteristics and operating rules of the various components. The influence of hydrological and meteorological conditions, channel conditions, transport vessels and channel management on the navigable capacity is mainly studied.(2)Based on the principle of discrete system simulation, this paper summarizes and puts forward the specific implementation steps and methods: Water level-time series model, channel system simulation model, for calculating the navigable capacity when we just consider the main random factors including the water depth, navigation time, ship scale and ship movement process.(3)Taking a multi-level reservoir area as an example, the theoretical simulation model is applied to practice.According to the comparison between the simulation data and the actual navigable capacity, the navigable condition of the channel is judged and the main bottleneck is identified.Which are given some relevant suggestions for the optimization design of the channel. The analytical method and the calculation process used in this paper can not only provide theoretical support for the determination of navigable capacity, but also can show the time-varying process of ship navigation by providing simulation model, provide the information of ship traffic flow, and evaluates systematically the conditions of the channel under different traffic flow conditions, the natural environment condition and the adaptability of the channel, and provides the decision basis for the shipping management.
