The acceleration of trade,human dependence on energy and the pressure on the environment have reached unprecedented levels.Energy saving and emission reduction have become a hot topic of scientific research institutions.Maritime transport is the backbone of international trade and the global economy and it takes over 80%of total volume of global trade.Ships are main energy consumers in shipping industry.Nowadays,the total amount of vessels exhaust waste heat is dramatically increased and it also can be accounted for more than half of the share of ship waste heat.If the waste heat can be recovered from exhaust by energy-saving technology on ships,the ship fuel economy can be improved but also it can be better to the marine environment.Since the thermoelectric generation technology has a good thermoelectric conversion performance it suits for low-grade waste heat into electrical energy.This paper researched on the thermoelectric generation by taking ship waste heat as heating source.It is based on the semiconductor thermoelectric generation technology combined with waste heat characteristics.The main works of research are as follows.First of all,four kinds of mainstream ship types of an ocean transportation company were selected as the research objects,and the actual operating data were calculated and analyzed.According to the different temperature distribution characteristics of waste heat which including main engine,the auxiliary engine and the incinerator,experimental research and device design of the thermoelectric utilization scheme were carried out.Secondly,an experimental platform for heat recovery of ship waste heat was built.The optimization of output power performance of thermoelectric generator was calculated.Aiming at the characteristics of three different kinds of waste heat of vessels,different waste heat recovery devices were designed.They are respectively:the main engine exhaust recovery device of low temperature thermoelectric generators without conduct oil structure;the auxiliary engine exhaust recovery device of low temperature thermoelectric generators with conduct oil structure;the incinerator flue gas recovery device of high temperature thermoelectric generators without conduct oil structure.The performances of these three different waste heat recovery devices under optimum working conditions were studied.When the main engine exhaust temperature at 440?,the maximum output power was 428W with the efficiency of 4.01%;when the auxiliary engine exhaust temperature at 377?,the maximum output power was 426W with the efficiency of 4.06%and when the incinerator flue gas temperature at 520?,the maximum output power was 879W with the efficiency of 4.36%.Finally,the design and development of marine waste heat thermoelectric generation device were carried out based on the parameters of one of Dalian Maritime University ships,name as Yu Kun,including specific areas on main engine,auxiliary engine and incinerator.After calculation,it was estimated that if the waste heat of the ship's flue gas was fully recovered and utilized,the maximum output power per meter length of the thermoelectric generators would produce about 8.45 kW,3.55 kW and 9.45 kW,respectively.
