Data acquisition and information processing technology ensure the effective operation of the smart grid,so advanced metering infrastructure AMI network is the first step to achieve the smart grid.The link between devices in the AMI networks generally has a high packet loss ratio,low bandwidth,and unstable characteristics,this type of network is often called Low-power and Lossy Networks.Recently,RPL routing protocal becomes the most mature solution for LLNs.RPL protocol has become an important routing protocol in AMI networks because it is suitable for low power consumption,low storage,low processing capacity embedded devices,and it can meet the requirement of large-scale monitoring and control requirements in the smart gird.But RPL routing protocol has many defects in the application of the AMI networks,so we should meet the performance of AMI networks' strict requirements through the optimization and improvement.It is very important to study the optimization of RPL in AMI network applications.This paper introduces the application of RPL in AMI networks,then analyzes the development process,mechanism of action,key mechanism of the RPL.On this basis,the paper focuses on the optimization of load balance through analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the RPL,it proposes two load balance algorithm to balance the network energy and reduce the power loss in the transmission of information.First,this paper adds load balance mechanism of common node routing process,it defines two reference indexes which are the Node Neighbor Distance and Remaining Energy Level.The paper proposes an OLB-RPL protocol based on load balance of ordinary node through dividing the energy level and changing the communication radius,the OLB-RPL enhances the routing process effectiveness in energy and greatly increased the life cycle of the node.Second,this paper provides a load balance algorithm for RPL protocol based on combination weights to improve the OLB-RPL without weight allocation,and it is limited in the situation in which the communication volume is not uniform.The algorithm introduces node traffic as the third routing metrics,and calculates a comprehensive evaluation membership with the method of combined weights,then finds the next optimal hop node.Finally,we design the corresponding scene simulation for the two algorithms,the simulation verifies the validity of the algorithm,proves that the two algorithms improve the energy efficiency and applicability of RPL protocol in the application of AMI networks in smart grid.
