At present,with the rapid development of modern computer technology,electronic measuring and control technology,the concept of virtual technologies has been proposed and extensively developed.Virtual technology and computer communication technology,network technology are recognized as the the three cores of science and technology in the 21st century.Virtual instrument,which is an important part of virtual technology,is mainly formed by the instrument hardware,applications and personal computer terminals.With external signal collection by hardware,functions such as signal display,signal measurement and analysis can be realized via applications in personal computer terminals.In this paper,along with the current development of science and technolody and under the "low cost and high performance" ideology,by applying the concept of virtual instrumentation and high-speed digital signal processing algorithms,different functions are highly integrated and unified in a convenient single platform,such as traditional function generator,oscilloscope,data logger,frequency counter,spectrum analysis instrument,and filter design and simulation.A multi-funtional virtual oscilloscope and signal generator are designed as a result.The application in this paper is based on VC + + software development platform.The software environment supports two modes,including sound card mode and USB module mode.In sound card mode,the analysis and processing of signals in the audio range can be done with the assistance of computer sound card;the USB module can fulfill the analysis and processing of the input signals within the bandwidth rangeHardware module or computer sound card based on USB interface is applied in instrument hardware.Not only does it realize traditional oscilloscope and signal generator functions,it also has functions as storage,playback,signal analysis and processing,etc.The instrument hardware,which can equipped with either USB-based module or computer built-in sound card,is characterized with portability,convenience,versatility,etc.Experimental results show that the multi-functional virtual oscilloscope and signal generator designed in the paper have advantages in convenience,usability,flexibility,economical efficiency,etc.With the application of virtual technology,realization of resources sharing between hardware and software,and the use of computer application programs,it is able to fulfill sampling,spectrum analysis,and waveform display of the input signals.
