Great achievements have been achieved and much experience has been accumulated in ship design and building after so many years' development. That provides technique foundation for the development of the naval rules. However an intact system of direct strength analysis of warship doesn't exist. It is of great significance to research the direct calculation method systematically and provide technique assistance. This paper's main context is researching the key techniques of direct calculation of yielding strength and analyzing the assessing criteria of hull ultimate strength.1. The difference between commercial ship rules and warship rules are researched. The structural rules of commercial ship and warships are complared and the advantages and disadvantages are analysed to get the aspects that warship rules can propose.2. Application of the warship design loads calculation approach is researched. Wave loads based on 3D-hydroelastic theory are calculated. The non-linear design wave method is researched and the load cases are to be confirmed.3. The related technologies of the direct calculation method of warship are researched.The best scheme of modeling is confirmed by doing research on the mesh size, boundary conditions etc. The yielding strength criteria based on the latest reliable method of yielding strength assessment is researched. Bukling strength assessment is achieved based on the limit state formula.4. The hull ultimate strength is researched. The elastic effect of vessel and the phase difference of slamming loads and wave loads are considered when calculating loads. Smith method is adopted when calculating hull girder ultimate strength. The criteria of the hull girder strength based on reliable method are researched and the partial safety factors calculation method in the target safety index are given.
