Port traffic flow simulation is an important research field in marine traffic engineering. It has guiding significance for the feasibility study of port reconstruction and the solution of vessel scheduling problem. In order to better simulate the ship traffic flow under the influence of many factors and analyze the effects of various traffic phenomena on vessel navigation safety and traffic efficiency, the technology and theory of artificial intelligence and traffic control should be combined to develop and improve the simulation model of port traffic flow. Based on those, the following work is done in this paper.Firstly, based on the analysis of basic theory and structure characteristics of Agent and cellular automata, the feasibility of combining both of two is discussed. Aiming at the characteristics of port traffic flow, the idea of stratifying simulation entity is proposed, which is divided into the cellular entity layer and the Agent signal control layer. Then, a simulation framework of port traffic flow based on cellular automata and Agent is established.Secondly, by analyzing the characteristics of port system and studying its internal elements and operation process, theffunction and logic of each subsystem of port are determined. On the basis of that, the cellular automata model of port system is established according to the characteristics of port water traffic. On the basis of Agent structure and considering slip priority, ship domain and ship behavior, the model about slip behavior based on Agent is established. Finally, based on the evolution rule of port cellular, a simulation model of port traffic flow based on cellular automata and Agent is established.Thirdly, based on VC++, the functional module of port traffic flow simulation is designed and port traffic flow simulation system with the method of cellular automata and Agent is accomplished.Based on real data and navigation rules of Tianjin port, the marine traffic condition of Tianjin port is reproduced by simulation. The experimental results show that the model can reflect all kinds of vessel traffic situation in the port area.
