Kindergarten is an important place for preschool education,which is carried out in kindergarten classrooms as the main venue.Relevant foreign researches suggest full spectrum of natural light is superior in young children’s physical development,educational effects promotion,energy conservation and emission reduction,compared with artificial light source.It is of great significance to induce natural light into architectural design of kindergartens.For the purpose of solving the most common lighting issues exposed to kindergarten classrooms on account of side-lighting,the paper selects kindergarten classrooms in Guangzhou as the research subject,with expectation to find out relevant architectural design advices on the clearstory lighting system among lightning design strategies by means of literature research,field research,outstanding case study and modeling simulation.Through literature research,the paper sums up that side light attenuation problems should be paid attention to in side lighting.A field investigation is conducted to Kindergarten of South China University of Technology and Favorview Palace Kindergarten to further understand side light attenuation situation in kindergarten classrooms and its associated lighting environment issues.It is found through the attendant site survey that side light attenuation exerts impacts over diversified activity development for young children.Based on conclusions of foreign excellent case study,the author extracts the design prototype of lighting environment for kindergartens at different design stages and selects the clearstory lighting system as the research subject for in-depth simulation.Ecotect and Radiance softwares are applied to proceed with simulation study of relevant design elements in the side lighting system,of which corresponding design proposals are finally obtained.The paper involves the following main research work,achievements and conclusions.1.During investigation on lighting environment in Kindergarten of South China University of Technology and QIAOXING Kindergarten,it is found side light attenuation will result in a too dark indoor lighting environment,uneven distribution of indoor lighting,window glare,etc.Meanwhile,owing to the lack of the sunshading structure,kindergarten classrooms will emerge too bright situation in lighting environment.By means of attendant survey on two schools,the results suggest side light attenuation will lead to partition teaching exposing to too bright or too dark areas of classrooms that is not beneficial to carry out diversified teaching.2.Domestic and foreign outstanding education architectural design cases with reference to natural lighting indicates corresponding lighting design strategies should be intervened at different design stages,such as adjusting architectural layout and structure design at overall design stage,adding side-lighting systems or sky radiation system at deep design stage,and optimizing the lighting opening structure at detailed design stage.3.Lighting system for clearstory windows can increase incidence,such as reflecting components,and supplement lighting,such as increasing the number and area of lighting openings,so as to achieve the goal of rectifying indoor lighting curve.The specific operation can be performed in the form of different clearstory windows,interior ceilings,shading and reflecting structures,etc.
