The traditional dwelling in the rowlock wall is a widely distributed in the south of China building structure form produced under the historical condition of the lack of resources,with a unique architectural style and rich cultural information.But the damage of this kind of building is more serious than solid brick building under seismic action according to all previous earthquake damage,due to the shear strength and integrity of the building is poor.So it is imminent to assess its seismic performance and promote its safety performance.This paper studies its seismic strengthening design method according to the original architectural style and features.The main contents and achievements are as follows:(1)The pseudo-static test of the rowlock wall before and after reinforcement shows that the most effective reinforcement form is double sides full of ECC and the reinforcement form of one side full of ECC and the other side with ECC surface of frame shape also can improve the bearing capacity,deformation capacity and energy dissipation capacity of the wall to a certain extent.Therefore,the wall can adopt the reinforcement form of one side full of ECC and the other side with ECC surface of frame shape when the original architectural style and features need to be protected.(2)The shaking table test of the rowlock wall bearing building reinforced in the form of one side full of ECC and the other side with ECC surface of frame shape shows that the house is still not obvious damage under the action of the bidirectional earthquake of the peak acceleration of 1011 gal,only some small cracks appearing in the reinforcement.The shaking table test of rowlock-wall-shielding and timber-frame-bearing building reinforced by ECC materials shows that the seismic performance of the building is good with the integrity of the rowlock wall and timber frame greatly increased and the building reinforced can achieve the fortification goal which requires that a structure must be protected against damage under the strong earthquake,the structural damage should be repaired after the moderate earthquake and the structure must not collapse under the strong earthquake in areas with seismic intensity 8.(3)This paper puts forward the formulas of shear bearing capacity and lateral stiffness of the rowlock wall before and after reinforcement,referencing for existing research of lateral stiffness and shear bearing capacity of masonry wall and basing on pseudo-static test of the rowlock wall.(4)This paper puts forward the seismic strengthening design method of construction measures of the traditional dwelling in the rowlock wall basing on the reinforcement measures adopted by the shaking table tests of building model in the rowlock wall,with mainly including: foundation reinforcement,wall reinforcement,reinforcement of the joint between the retaining structure and the bearing structure,reinforcement of the integrity of the roof or floor and so on.
