The traditional residence with bright regional characteristics and folk wisdom,conveys the most true and richest historical information, is our precious tangible cultural heritage resources, rowlock cavity wall with masonry-timber structure of the residence is a kind of buildings widely existing in the south, the local residents have strong feelings for it. But because of the unique constructing way of the rowlock cavity wall leads to its shear and compressive capacity is weak, lack of necessary connection between wall and timber frame, and it was built a long time with disrepair, housing security situation is grim, which makes it easier to produce severe damage when earthquake comes. In such a situation, we need to find a way to reinforcement and reconstruction this type of traditional dwellings urgently. In this paper, based on the above background, follows show the primary research contents and achievement:In this article we choose a rowlock cavity wall with masonry-timber structure of the traditional residence as the prototype which mapping in a village in Fujian. First of all, we made a 1/2 scale ratio of building model, and then we reinforced it based on the protection of traditional dwellings landscape. Secondly, through shaking table test we observed the damage phenomena and analyzed the data collected from the test. At last,we analyzed the cost of the reinforcement project.In this article the model takes a comprehensive strengthening methods, which including: using iron like thin steel and flat steel to reinforce the node of the timber frame and the timber itself; using the connecting reinforced to reinforce the connecting of the rowlock cavity wall and the timber frame; using ECC layer to reinforce therowlock cavity wall in a way of full plaster of the inner wall and strip plaster of the outer wall.Through observing the test, when the earthquake resistance load to 7.5 degrees,the model still have no damage phenomenon, which proves it’s in a certain condition of elastic stage. When the earthquake resistance load to 9 degrees, it started to appear new cracks in the wall, and have slight tracking on some mortar belt edge, the stiffness started decreased. When the model suffered 9 degree of severe earthquake, the timber frame tenon joint nodes didn’t appear to take off the tenon mortise, some tapping screw used to connected to the flat iron and wood have dropped. The rowlock cavity wall with so many cracks has no damage phenomenon such as the brick shatter. The rowlock cavity wall has obviously flash, but it can still giant swing with the timber frame together, which proved the comprehensive strengthening methods can improve the integrity and deformation ability of the model.Through analyzing the data, we found that the model’s two directions of natural frequency are gradually decreased with the increase of input earthquake magnitude,and its degree of declining are increasing gradually. When the earthquake resistance load to 9 degrees of severe earthquake, at the top of the rowlock cavity wall the X direction of relative displacement reached 54.06 mm, the Y direction of relative displacement reached 11.12 mm, embodies the model’s good ability of deformation after reinforcement. Finally, we carried on the detailed cost of the reinforcement project, getting the result of 310 yuan per square, which can be used in practical strengthening projects.In summary, the seismic simulation shaking table test indicate that this kind of comprehensive strengthening methods is simple and effective, it’s suitable to strengthen the rowlock cavity wall with masonry-timber structure of the traditional residence, the reinforced houses can plenty meet the three-level seismic target of fortified of the present standard.
