The Stone Construction And Application In Qinghai Architecture

Qinghai is a high and cold polar region with many mountains and stone.Stone is a kind of architecture material that could be found everywhere.The local people have accumulated rich experience in the process of long-term relationship.Stone is used in both residential and Buddhist monasteries.In addition,stone is the main material of contemporary architecture design in Qinghai.In order to create architecture with regional features,architects used stone masonry to build walls.Hence,a study on the method of architecture stone masonry in Qinghai was triggered.This thesis takes Qinghai stone masonry walls as research objects.The first step of this study is the field investigation in the south plateau of Qinghai.Hehuang valley and the region around Qinghai lake.The masonry case consists of two parts: traditional architecture and contemporary architecture.Traditional cases are divided into 3 types: dwellings,Buddhist temple and pagoda,Mani stone pile and wall.The contemporary cases are all Yushu post-disaster reconstruction projects.The second step of this study is to examine Qinghai architecture stone masonry from the perspective of time and space in scientific and systematic way and summarizing the methods and features of Qinghai architecture stone masonry.The third step is to make comparison between and analysis of traditional architecture and contemporary architecture,and draw a final conclusion.This study may shed light on the inheritance of crafts and provide reference for contemporary architecture design.
