Formula Society of Automotive Engineering(FSAE)Competition is an extreme sport for college students.It has the characteristics of high speed and fast acceleration,especially the electric formula racing cars.Due to the working characteristics of the motor,the car can realize infinitely variable speeds,has strong power and the 0-to-100 kph acceleration time of cars can reach only 1.7s.Therefore,the security is important for electric racing car.And composite material has the characteristics of excellent crashworthiness,high strength,light weight and so on;it has a significant advantage in improving the energy absorption property.In this paper,The research target is improving the light weight and crashworthiness of the integrated composite impact attenuator of electric formula racing car;the influence factors of composite material’s energy absorption property are analyzed through simulation and experiment,and design the integrated composite impact attenuator;and the geometry & layer scheme are optimized through the finite element analyze and physical test.Firstly,make composite basic shells and take use of quasi-static compression test to test their failure mode under different influence factors,analyze the damage mechanism and energy absorption property of the shells,research the influence of fiber angle,wall thickness and knitting styles to the energy absorption property of the shell and research different factors’ influence to the damage mechanism of composite material.Then the three-dimensional model and the finite element model of the composite basic shell are established,the energy absorption property and failure modes under quasi-static condition and impact condition of the basic shells are analyzed.After compared with the physical test,it is found that the results are similar,the failure mode is the same,and keeping well accordant.According to the vehicle layout and FSAE competition rules,the electric formula racing cars’ monocoque is designed,the shape of the front bulkhead is determined,based on which the integrated composite impact attenuator is designed;use ANSYS / ACP and ANSYS / Workbench LS-DYNA to optimize the overall structure and layer scheme;as well as the design requirements are met,the light weight design is realized.At last,manufacture the integrated composite impact attenuator and use the quasi-static test and the impact test to measure its energy absorption property.According to the design objective and the constraint condition,the design scheme which is light weight and meets the requirements is chosen,then the design of the integrated composite impact attenuator of electric formula racing car is completed.
