The maritime affairs are becoming more diversified and complex,how to optimize the architectures of Combat Systems has become one of the priorities for navies.Due to the constriction of computer technology,the organization of Combat Systems used to be fixed in order to serve the purpose of a better overall designing scheme for warships,with this kind of design,the subsystems within the Combat Systems were unable to interoperate or share their resources with each other,thus not only the warships couldn't meet the requirement of multiple missions,the cost for upgrading or switching the subsystems would be very high since the software/hardware were tightly coupled.In order to solve these problems,the U.S.navy proposed to build a kind of Flexible Ships,trying to use less resources to match the platform with a more efficient payloads.Flexibility would help warships establish some leverages like quick response,multi-mission capability and continuously rapid modernization,the essay made a comprehensive research on Flexible Ships in multiple aspects,specifically the flexibility of shipboard combat systems:First,the background of Flexible Ships was introduced as well as how to design a flexible ship,by studying the flexible designs among foreign warships and combat systems,the required methods and techniques were revealed,in the end of this part,a methodology of how to design a combat system with flexibility was proposed.Secondly,by using relevant techniques of Service Oriented Architecture and Business Process Management,a process model was build based on the anti-air defense mission in order to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed designing scheme in promoting the flexibility of combat systems.Then,an evaluation method was put forward to quantitatively measure the flexibility of combat systems by dividing flexibility into two attributes: cost and coverage of mission.Finally,a simulation software application was build based on Activiti,the software was aimed to support the combat process designer as a one-stop application including designing,simulating,and calculating the flexibility of combat systems.By adopting the conclusions of this essay,the designers of combat systems could significantly increase the flexibility as well as the efficiency of Combat Systems.
