As an important carrier for travel activities of urban residents,the benign development of public transport is of great importance to evacuate passengers rapidly and alleviate network traffic pressure effectively.However,due to various factors and the impact of the constraints,such as the hardware infrastructure and configuration of traffic mode,the travel demands for bus convenience,punctuality and rapidity are hardly to be guaranteed,which ultimately lead to serious affect on travel mode split rate and attraction of transit.Considering the regulation and optimization effects of traffic signal on travel demand for bus service,several traffic signal control models and methods oriented to travel services for passengers were proposed from the perspectives of bus service capacity and service level promotion.The main scientific researches carried out around passengers travel convenience,punctuality and rapidity improvement are as follows.Considering the demand for convenience of travel services available to passengers,the operation effects of different signal phase settings and pedestrians crossing organization schemes were analyzed by using the time-space diagram.Then,a design approach of pedestrians progression for crossing signalized intersections continuously was proposed.According to pedestrians arrival and departure time at the crosswalk,the delay models of pedestrians continuous crossing along different directions were deduced.Moreover,a general delay model formula for pedestrians continuous crossing was established,by which the quantitative analysis of pedestrians continuous crossing delay was realized.The integrated management and control strategies of signal phase settings and pedestrians crossing organization were designed,combined with the correlative progression design philosophy and delay analysis theory,which was available to provide dynamic guidance for passengerscontinuous crossing.Finally,the accuracy and reliability of the models proposed were verified through the example analysis and simulation comparison.Aiming at the demand for punctuality of travel services available to passengers,the phase margin time variables at intersections were introduced when the regulatory effects of signalized intersections on bus punctuality were taken into account.Ultimately,a bus punctuality control model based on the phase margin time at intersections was established,with the bus travel time between adjacent intersections being adopted as the control object and maximization of probability for buses arriving at the controllable punctuality range of downstream intersections as the control objective.Through the sensitive analysis of phase margin time,a timetable of bus travel schedule based on the time-space diagram of punctuality control was generated via comprehensive optimization of signal cycle length and offsets variables.The results of case study and simulation experiment suggested that the model proposed could best guarantee the requirement of bus punctuality,and the scheme generated by the model was proved to be of stronger robustness and fairly good applicability.In allusion to the demand for rapidity of travel services available to passengers,a quick OD data acquisition method of bus stations based on travel guidance was proposed via the deficiency analysis of bus IC card data acquisition technologies.Then,the bus routes needed to be coordinated were analyzed based on the OD data of bus stations,the correlative intersections along the directions of coordinated routes were selected as the control object,and a cosine function of the time difference between the actual green center point and the ideal green center point was defined as the evaluation index.Finally,an optimization model for progression coordinated control of bus routes was established,by which the maximization of total progression bandwidth in the directions of bus coordinated routes was realized.The case study and simulation experiment demonstrated that this model can significantly improvethe level of public transport without affecting the basic traffic demand of non-coordinated traffic flow.In order to attain higher passengers satisfaction,the traffic signal control problems oriented to travel services for passengers was the main focus of this paper.Considering the regulation and optimization effects of traffic signal on bus service capability and service level,the exploratory research of the traffic signal control models and methods in regard to travel service demand was carried out.In which the progression design and delay model of pedestrians continuous crossing at signal intersections was researched,a bus punctuality control model based on the phase margin time at intersections was constructed,besides,an optimization model for progression coordinated control of bus routes based on OD data was established.The preliminary signal control ideas and methods were provided for managers to improve passengers satisfaction for travel convenience,punctuality and rapidity.Moreover,this research is of great practical significance for advancing sustainable development of public transport systems.
