As one of the important energy transport tool,buried pipelines play a key role in Chinese strategy energy reserve and ordinary life line project.Due to the concealment of the buried pipelines,potential safety threat caused by construction around them to environment and life always exists.Especially,once they are subjected to damage,severe disasters,such as poison materials disclose or explosion,would be horribly harmful to surrounding environment and life.Protection measurements for buried pipes,however,are limited and are passive,it is very important for engineers and researchers to study the new protection methods for being away damage for buried pipes.Base on platform of software ABAQUS,this paper is aimed to investigate the protection mechanism of buried pipes by geogrids.Firstly,the comparative analysis have been conducted to study the simulated results and measured values,it showed that both agree with each other and then the verification of numerical method and model is obtained.Furthermore,this paper analyzed the effect of design parameters of geogrids on the performance of buried pipes.The optimal design determination for reinforcement is given in this paper.That is,the acceptable optimum values of buried depth of the first layer,u,length and layers of geogrids are 0.4b(b,width of loading plate),4D(D,external diameter of pipe)and 3~4,respectively.This paper also analyzed the influence of action of geogrid on stress,strain and displacement of pipes.The results showed that the maximum stress and strain of buried pipe typically appeared in the range of 45°~90°,270°~90°(the vertical of pipe is 0°,clock wising).The minimum values appeared in the range of 135°~225°.Finally,the effect of loading location on deformation characteristics of pipes is presented here.The distance between loading location and center of pipes significantly affected the deformation of pipes,with the increase of distance away from pipes,the deformation of buried pipes decreases and keeps very small,then deformation curves remains a steady tendency.
