There are still a large number of islands lack of electrical energy in our country,this problem has a bad effect on the life of those island residents and has seriously hindered the development of those island.Lots of small islands use diesel generators to generate electricity nowadays,but it is not easy to transport diesel.Diesel generators discharge of pollutant and damage the fragile ecological environment of the island.Islands lack of fossil energy,so stand-alone microgrid with renewable energy sources(RES)is considered as one of the best solutions to provide electricity supply for small islands,but high investment gets in way of its application.In this paper,demand response(DR)of household appliance is treated as virtual power source which can take part in the planning and operation,micro pumped storage(MPS)is used for energy storage system(ESS)for the islands with good geographical conditions.The main research contents of this paper are as follows.Above all,this paper gives an in-depth study of research about demand response and energy storage system in microgrid.This study proposes a new microgrid structure which with MPS in it,and describes the mathematical models of wind turbine,photovoltaic cell,MPS and battery.The next,household acceptance of DR is indicated by the demand response participation degree(DRPD),this paper has developed an operational optimization model with an objective of minimizing the power shortage of island microgrid.a capacity configuration optimization model is proposed considering the demand response of household appliance in island microgrid,the minimum of annual life cycle cost of microgrid is calculated as the objective function.This configuration optimization problem is a two-phase optimization method,CPLEX is used to solve the operational optimization problem and the particle swarm optimization(PSO)is used to get the optimal sizing of all major devices.Finally,the effect of DR on configuration optimization is analyzed by a island mirogrid with wind/solar/battery.By contrast with the cost of mirogrid with wind/solar/battery,the advantage of microgrid with wind/solar/MPS is demonstrated.The results of case studies demonstrate that the proposed method is effective,and DR of household appliances and the application of MPS can reduce island microgird investment significantly.Besides,Sensitivity analysis on the island energy consumption,the power consumption of deferrable appliance and the water head of PS is also conducted.
