The Shule River Basin is a vital part of the Silk Road which is well known as the “Mother River” of Dunhuang,it provides the water supply and agriculture irrigation for Yumen,22 townships of Guazhou,8.95×104 hm2 acres arable land of 6 Stated-owned farms,and the industrial water supply for mines in Gansu,and ecological water supplying in the area.As the lead reservoir,Changma Reservoir is the lifeblood irrigation project of Shule River of great importance to the irrigated area.Since the construction of the dam had raised the water level,the water depth increases along the flow,while slope and flow rate reduces.Thus the sediment carrying capacity will be lowered,which weaken the efficiency of the reservoir.So that the study of sedimentation is particularly important.With the improvement of technology and the practice of engineering,the control measures of sedimentation are constantly developing.Different measures have different influence on environment,society and economic benefits.To make a reasonable sedimentation controlling measure,we do not only need to think of the feasibility of technology,but also need to analysis the economics and the influence on our society and environment.Therefore,this paper is started from the hydrology and sediment data of the status quo of Changma Reservoir.Besides,according to the reservoir's storage capacity in 2003,the cross-sectional area measured in 2007 and the topographic maps proiess drawn in April of 2015,analysis on sedimentation proiess and reservoir capacity was provided the reduction of reservoir storage capacity was amalyzed by comparing the survey data of Changma Reservoir in April 2015 with the storage capacity data when the reservoir was just built in 2003.Combining with the present scheduling scheme of Changma,and the experience of general domestic sediment test,the Changma Reservoir's optimal operation scheme was proposed and tested with historical data.This proposed operation scheme is expected mainly to manage the sedimentation reduction measures to help Changma Reservoir achieve a reduced sedimentation,and keep the storage capacity by flushing,ensure the full play of water resource,improve flood control benefits,increase power efficiency,and achieve the sustainable use of the reservoir.
