As an important material carrier of southwest culture, mountainous settlements in Sichuan and Chongqing have been paid much attention and have important research value in the study of material form protection and the modern extension of cultural value. In this paper, based on field investigation of mountainous settlements in Sichuan and Chongqing, the fractal dimension of fractal theory is used to calculate and analyze the fractal dimension of traditional settlement in mountainous area, and explore the new method of traditional settlement research..This paper focuses on the characteristics of the traditional mountainous settlement in Sichuan and Chongqing, and its significance in the building level,as well as the inspiration to modern urban construction and human settlements.Fractal theory is one of the frontier theories of nonlinear science, and fractal theory has been applied in the study of foreign cities. But over the years, fractal theory is absent in the study of urban studies, especially mountain settlement.Fractal theory comes from the understanding of nature and Euclidean geometry in the expression of nature when the force is incompetent, its essence is a further understanding of nature and grasp the characteristics of things shape.Fractal theory in foreign theory and practice proved to have the ability to carry out settlement morphology research. The relationship between mountainous settlement and natural environment is closer than that of plain city. From the relevant theory and practice,it can be seen that fractal theory can also be applied to the study of mountainous settlement. At the research method level, the fractal theory was extended to the study of traditional settlement in the Sichuan-Chongqing mountainous area, and the scale-level screening method was added. The fractal dimension calculation and analysis of the spatial pattern of the traditional settlement of Sichuan and Chongqing are carried out from the whole settlement level. The results show that the overall fractal dimension is higher, the continuity is better, and the dimension is closer to the natural form.Number distribution in the spatial form of self-similarity,with self-growing random fractal characteristics. In addition, this paper also makes a comprehensive comparative analysis of the spatial characteristics of the settlement space in Sichuan-Chongqing mountain area from the aspects of geography and geography. The results show that the fractal dimension of the whole settlement will form a big difference in geographical form, but based on the similar geographical form And the fractal dimension values in different geographical environments are almost the same.Compared with the natural form, the fractal dimension of Chuan-Yu mountainous area has better self-similarity,which reflects the harmonious unity between the settlements and the nature. Finally, based on the above findings, this paper summarizes the inherent mechanism of the organic evolution of the traditional settlements in Sichuan-Chongqing mountainous area, draws lessons from the spatial combination characteristics of the mountainous and mountainous settlements of Sichuan and Chongqing, and gives full play to the urban environment construction and development in the process of urban environment construction and development.Internal driving force and other aspects of inspiration, help to create a personalized, local characteristics and sense of belonging to the living environment, the construction of rich and unified urban and architectural space. In this paper,we hope that the research on the cognition and design of mountainous cities can supplement the development of the existing research methods and provide some help for the practice of mountain city renewal.
