Huizhou traditional residences as the material carriers of Hui Culture havebeen deeply concerned by the people, with important value in the aspects ofphysical form protection and modern extension of the cultural values.Based on fieldinvestigation of Huizhou traditional residences and the scientific analysis onHuizhou traditional residences mapping data, fufilling the Box-counting method offractal theory to the fractal dimension of spatial form calculation and analysis invillage site plan、floor plan and building elevation, in search for developing newapproaches to the study of the traditional residences. The research of huizhoutraditional villages, residential plane and facade focuses on the characteristics offractal study and the significance in the building, as well as the enlightenment tomodern urban construction and residential environment construction. In research method, fractal theory has been conducted through the research onHuizhou traditional residences, and increases the screening method of hierarchicalscale, the correlation coefficient method and visual identification scale method. The fractal dimension of the spatial form of traditional houses in Huizhou arecalculated and analyzed from three levels of the overall settlement, single plane andsingle fa ade. The research illustrates as follows: the overall settlement level, general high fractal dimension, the continuity is good, is close to the natural formof dimension distribution, self-similarity exists in the space form with the growthof random fractal characteristic; In building monomer plane space and facade twolevels, the fractal dimension is relatively low, the continuity is relatively weak, andthe space complexity is relatively low, is strongly influenced by the planning anddesign of the artificial, affected by the random fractal characteristics; The facadeform of Huizhou traditional residences will display the most abundant vocabularyof forms in particular distance and angle. In addition, of traditional houses in Huizhou space morphological features arecomparative analyzed comprehensively from time, place and other aspects, theresults show:The fractal dimension of the overall settlement showed somefluctuations associated with the economic and cultural development overtime;Fractal dimension of Huizhou houses in different geographical distribution inthe overall settlement levels showing a greater difference in the overall macro-morphology, and the morphology of the monomer and zone showed highsimilarity;Compared to modern residential area, fractal dimension of traditionalvillage owns better continuity, reflecting the differences between artificialunified-plan urban settlements and traditional villages with natural growthproperties in spatial form characteristics. Finally, based on the results of the study, traditional residence organicevolution of the internal mechanism is summarized, targeting creation of modernurban construction and people living environment. Learning traditional houses inHuizhou as “simple rules iteration can be deduced complex “spatial combinationcharacteristics, to play internal driving force in the construction and developmentof the urban environment and other aspects of revelation, helping to create apersonalized, local geographical features as well as a sense of belonging livingenvironment, unified urban and architectural space.
