Energy dissipation control technology is a passive control technique that is used to control the structural response within the expected range by energy dissipating device with the function of energy dissipation. As the energy dissipating device, viscous dampers can control inter-layer displacement and structural internal force of the building structure under the earthquake. It was found that the viscous dampers in normal working condition exert the well energy dissipation effect, while the study of viscous dampers considering the limit states is rare.In this paper, mechanical model of viscous dampers considering limit states was proposed and the damping effect was verified.Chapter 1 introduced the concept, principle and classification of structural vibration control.Chapter 2 briefly introduced the type and working principle of the usual dampers, and described the classification, working principle, performance influencing factor and cylinder of viscous dampers.Chapter 3 introduced the amending process and method about Maxwell model(a constitutive relation of viscous dampers)and obtains the Maxwell01 model with considering the limit states. Then Maxwell01 was imported the Open Sees source code by C ++ programming language and simply verified correctness about it.In order to study the energy dissipation performance of the viscous dampers considering the limit states and the effect on the seismic performance of the damping structure,a 6-story steel frame structure was modeled and analyzed by using Open Sees.In this paper,Four conditions were adopted: first condition was no damper;second condition was to install viscous dampers without considering the limit states;third condition was to install the viscous dampers considering the piston undercut' pulling limit state;fourth condition was to install the viscous dampers considering the drive support' pressing limit state.According to the requirements of the seismic code, seven ground motion records were selected reasonably.According to the rare earthquakes, the peak acceleration of the selected seven ground motion records was adjusted to 0.4g and was inputted into the structural model for non-linear analysis.Extracting data of the maximum drift, maximum acceleration, maximum velocity, maximum displacement and plotting curves based on use the data to comparative analysis. The results show that the seismic response of the damping structure is different when input different ground motion records, and the effect of the viscous dampers on damping structure is different;under different ground motion records, the damper force is somewhat different, and energy dissipation capacity of the viscous dampers with considering the limit states are less than that of viscous dampers under normal working conditions;under large earthquakes, especially exceeding design strength level earthquakes, damping performance of viscous dampers with considering the limit states may be overestimated.
