With the development of urbanization, the impervious surface area keeps increasing and the urban waterlogging becomes heavier.Sponge city can store, permate and purify the water and is an effective way to deal with the waterlogging.Low impact development is an important theory of sponge city which wants to use dispersed headstream controlling measures to help the site keep its original hydrographic features.LID road has superior capacity for handling runoff and many cities want to have a try.To promote sponge city,The Guide of Builing Sponge City was published. The Guide pays a lot of attention to the characteristic and usability of LID facilities but ignores the size and structure. As a result, there will be some problems when using The Guide.By studying literatures and projects, the paper chose suitable LID facilities to use in the road from The Guide and gave the ways of calculation, the technical requirements and the arrangement principles. What's more, the paper also concluded new LID facilities that are not involved in The Guide. To introduce the ways of using LID facilities in the urban road design, the paper used the design of sponge city in the North Road of Suzhou as an example. The paper also used the Storm Water Management Model to get the runoff curves of traditional road design, the design using storage module and the design using bio-retention facilities.By comparing these curves, the paper found that the design using storage module can deal with runoff under different rainfall intensities and its effect is better than the design using bio-retention facilities. The result offered theory evidence the North Road as well as other familiar projects.By learning literatures and projects, the paper studied the design, the arrangement and the effect analysis of LID facilities and explored the way of using LID facilities in the urban road design.
