Adaptive Reuse Methods Of Thetraditional Masonry-timber Buildings On The Ancient South Street In Dingshu,Yixing

Repairing and renovating houses is the instinctive behavior in pursuit of better living environment.There are many contradictions between traditional masonry-timber buildings in ancient town with modern life restricted by many factors such as economic conditions,standard of construction,equipment technology when the buildings were built.It is possible to improve performance of historic buildings from several aspects by adaptive reuse,promoting the better adaptation between traditional buildings with lifestyle and housing needs of modern people.The study chooses the traditional masonry-timber buildings on the ancient south street as research objects,analyzing there contradictions with modem housing needs.This study systematically explains the methods of the traditional masonry-timber buildings adaptive reuse on the ancient south street,in combination with the examples of traditional dwellings renovation and the practices of local traditional buildings adaptive reuse.Firstly,the study conducts field research with the buildings on the ancient south street,and search for the problems and the causes leading to them from the angle of housing safety performance,space and function design,indoor residential environment,mechanical and electrical equipment design.And then,aiming at these problems the study clearly puts forward the principles,adaptable and livable,environmental symbiotic and eco-friendly,in adaptive reuse process.In addition,this study elaborates several adaptive reuse methods from five aspects including safety performance improvement,spatial optimization,environmental comfort improvement,continuation of local characteristics and sustainable design.Futhermore,it summarizes the practice and achievement of the methods of traditional masonry-timber buildings adaptive reuse in combination with 1-1 building renovation project.It rethinks the contradictions between renovation design and existing building conditions,construction technologies and requirements of the clients.Finally,the study forms the methods to a selection menu,in expectation of actively guiding the spontaneous construction of local residents.
