Now,BIM technology is an unstoppable trend that has dramatically improved project management and productivity by enabling information sharing and collaboration across the entire project lifecycle and between participating parties, leading to an unprecedented revolution in the construction industry. However, the construction industry is facing barriers and challenges in BIM adoption such as industry, technology, personnel and many other obstacles. The adoption of BIM technology is not only related to the efficiency of the internal process problem in the construction industry, but also to the external environmental pressure.Among them, the psychological resistance of designers and the external environment influence factors of BIM technology have received widespread attention and emphasis. In this study, the BIM technology adoption in the design industry is studied from two perspectives: dispositional resistance to change and institutional pressure. In order to explore the relationship between dispositional resistance to change of designers and BIM adoption from the perspective of psychological capital, this paper constructed the relational model of psychological capital, dispositional resistance to change with BIM adoption.Meanwhile, based on the institutional theory, this study also constructed a empirical model of the relationship between the three types of institutional pressures and the adoption of BIM technology within the design industry, respectively.Data were collected from architectural design companies that have a certain understanding of BIM technology in China. We used the sample data for empirical analysis. The results show that designers' psychological capital has a negative impact on dispositional resistance to change, which in turn negatively affects BIM adoption. The mediating test shows that individual innovativeness acts as a mediator between dispositional resistance to change and BIM adoption. All hypotheses were supported.Furthermore, the results reinforce the need to regard BIM adoption as a complexly socialized activity that may not only be motivated by proactive efficiency needs but also influenced by institutional isomorphic pressures. Both coercive pressures and mimetic pressures are found to be significant influencing factors for BIM adoption. With respect to normative pressures, this study fails to provide evidence for their significant influence on the extent of BIM adoption. The research findings provide a useful reference for overcoming designers' dispositional resistance to change from the perspective of psychological capital to promote the adoption of BIM which suggest that in the practice of implementing BIM,architectural design companies should strengthen the psychological counseling for designers, improve their psychological capital and individual innovativeness. In order to improve the effectiveness of institutional pressures' influence, the best practices and successful experiences of BIM adoption in similar projects should be exhibited more often.
