Bus Rapid Transit(BRT)is a kind of advanced large-capacity rapid transit mode that has dedicated public transport vehicles which run fast on a special road.It also has some features of rail transit,for instance,large traffic volume,comfortable,faster,security,the relatively low cost,etc.BRT can effectively alleviate the supply and demand problem on traffic.According to the analysis on running qualities of BRT vehicles,it is found that the operation process of BRT vehicle is a kind of typical discrete event dynamic systems(DEDS).BRT system can be seen as a serial production line,of which the buses of BRT system can be seen as a workpiece to be machined and the stations and sections on a running circuit can be seen as machine tools of a serial production line.In this paper,the max-plus algebraic method is applied to build up the linear-system model of buses' movement of BRT system which is a line of open-loop and the system performances base on this model are alalyzed.Firstly,this paper analyzes the elements and characteristics of the BRT system,and study the operation process of BRT vehicle.It can be seen as discrete and dynamic that are the operation process of BRT vehicle,departing time and arrial time.The max-plus algebraic method is applied to build up the maximum algebraic linear model of buses' movement of BRT system.Secondly,based on the maximum algebraic model of BRT system,we discussed the dynamic behavior of bus rapid transit system.The performance of BRT system in equal headway circumstance is analyzed by using a simple and practical periodical input to control,which includes controllability,periodical steady-state and robustness.Finally,the paper give an illustration to show the validity of relative conclusions on the background of the bus rapid transit system in Xiamen City.The research results of this paper can provide theoretically support for the study of the problems like the operation and scheduling for BRT,diagram assessment and passenger service level.
