Traffic safety,traffic congestion,fuel consumption and environmental pollution of road traffic has become the bottleneck restricting the socio-economic development,which can not be ignored.The safety assistance driving system has been widely used as an active vehicle safety technology and played an important role in solving traffic safety problem.However,there is little research on the impact of safety assistance driving system on the evolution of traffic flow,fuel consumption and emissions.Is it possible to design an effective safety assistance driving system that can alleviate traffic congestion and reduce fuel consumption and emissions while ensuring traffic safety?In response to this problem,this paper carried out related research works.Firstly,proposing the one-regime,two-regime and multi-regime safety assistance driving strategies based on the principle of a safety assistance driving system,and simulating a platoon of 25 vehicles with a car-following model(2D IIDM),and calculating the fuel consumption and emissions of vehicles using the microscopic VT-Micro fuel consumption and emission model.Through the comparative study,it is found that the one-regime safety assistance driving strategy can reduce the fluctuation of the speed of cars,but it will not reduce the fuel consumption and emissions;the two-regime safety assistance driving strategy can not only make the speed of cars more stable,the fuel consumption and emissions are significantly reduced;the impact of multi-regime safety assistance driving strategy on traffic flow characteristics,fuel consumption and emissions is basically the same as that of two-regime safety assistance driving strategy.Secondly,analyzing the traffic oscillation magnitude,fuel consumption and emissions of one-regime,two-regime safety assistance driving strategy at different values of parameters,and finding the optimal range of parameters of safety assistance driving strategies to make fuel consumption and emissions achieve lower.It is found that the one-regime safety assistance driving strategy has no good effect in reducing the fuel consumption and emissions though it can reduce the oscillation magnitude;while the two-regime safety assistance driving strategy can reach the lowest fuel consumption and emissions at the appropriate parameter values,and the traffic oscillation magnitude can be reduced;for multi-regime safety assistance driving strategy,it is found that it s diagrams of fuel consumption and emission with parameters are a part of two-regime safety assistance driving strategy,therefore,two kind of safety assistance driving strategies have the same effect on fuel consumption and emissions.At last,based on the analysis of the parameters in two-regime safety assistance driving strategy,a set of suitable parameter values is selected to study the effect of two-regime safety assistance driving strategy on the traffic flow characteristics,fuel consumption and emissions of a kind of bottleneck.It is found that the two-regime safety assistance driving strategy can alleviate the queuing of vehicles on the upstream of the bottleneck,thus reducing the duration of congestion;due to the application of the strategy will make the speed of cars drop,the traffic flow will have a slight drop in most cases;the two-regime safety assistance driving strategy can reduce fuel consumption and emissions to different degree.
