Geologic survey of hydropower projects is a basic task during design and construction phases.Due to some limitations in the field,geological engineers did not have much technique but inconvenience in geologic explorations.The experience and skills of geologic engineers affected the validation and accuracy of recording result.Based on the demand of geologic fieldwork in hydropower projects,the major difficulties are analyzed when recording and mapping geological data.Several key techniques and methods are introduced such as 3D scene technique,oblique photography modeling method,engineering geology database technique and 3D geological modeling method.Then,the geological mapping system with 3D terrain scene(FieldGeo3D)is developed,and main achievements can be embodied as follows:(1)The framework of FieldGeo3 D is designed with geological data structures.A real-time visual method with relevant interface to existing data system is carried out,with its functional flows and user interface.(2)Geological logging and mapping technique based on 3D scene and geological database is put forward.3D terrain is built in an omnibearing way using 3D scene technique and oblique photography modeling,which makes geological recording and mapping in a visually real scene.(3)Based on the technology in digital image and 2D geological drawings,FieldGeo3 D interprets geologic images to their 3D results in an efficient way.(4)According to the real-time demand in the field,FieldGeo3 D makes a classification of geological data by their properties.By the geo-mathematics and computer graphics techniques,the system realizes the real-time analysis in 3D scene to all kind of geological data,which may be a guidance to further recording and mapping.
