The strategic position of the Arctic and Antarctic is becoming more and more meaningful with melting glaciers,and resource development and polar navigation activities become more frequent.The polar environment gradually becomes complicated due to climate warming,and there are level ice,pack ice,ice ridge and coupling waves and flow load conditions simultaneously.Therefore,as the key platform facility in the Arctic,it is necessary to research the resistance performance of ice-going ship in some specific environment.The coexistence of wave and sea ice is the main morphological characteristics of polar marginal ice zone,with the gradual expansion of the marginal ice zone,the interaction of wave and pack ice will threaten the safety of ice-going ship.What the previous studies mainly focused on are under different conditions,such as the level ice,pack ice,brash ice,never considering the interference of external waves.Based on the necessity of the research on the ship resistance performance in marginal ice zone,and model test also is a practical and feasible method.Supported by the HEU towing tank equipped with wave maker,using paraffin material as model ice,and the special environment just like marginal ice zone is simulated.Therefore the resistance measurement test of ship model under the combined effects of wave and pack ice is designed and completed.The study finds that the motion of ship model is more unstable and the degree of ship-ice interaction is increased under the wave-ice interaction.In addition,the quantity of pack ice submersing into water from the bow and sliding to stern along the bottom increase significantly,which may have negative effects on the propulsive efficiency of propeller.Meanwhile,due to the coupling action of wave,pack ice,and ship,the total ship resistance in this condition is not equal to the sum of open water resistance,wave added resistance and pack ice resistance.And it also needs to consider the resistance increment caused by the coupling effects of the three.The parameters of wave length,wave height,ice concentration will all exert an influence on the coupling added resistance.All these works can provide some guidance for the design of the ship engine power in marginal ice zone.
