Driving Mechanism Of The Development Of Urban Green Space In China Based On Panel Data

With the global wave of urbanization,China has taken a "miraculous leap forward"in urbanization with the characteristics that agrowingproportionofthelandandpopulationare rapidly becoming urbanized.However,Urbanplanetisolate peoplefrom nature.Urban green space is the important foundation for the sustainable development.It's the integral part of improvement of the urban ecosystem health and urban settlements environment.Thus,understanding the driving mechanism of urban green spacecoverage could help the government andpolicymakertodevelop urbansustainably.Urban green spaceare a complex ecosystem resulted from the interaction of natural endowment and socioeconomic factors based on the inherent limit of natural endowment and aposteriori effect of human activities.Thispaperquantitatively analysis thespatial-temporal characteristicsand driving mechanism of the development of urban green spacecoveragein China's 286 cities from 2003 to 2013 based on paneldata.Theresultsshowed:(1)urban green space have experienced a great increase from 2003 to 2013,which indicated that China's government have put great emphasis on urban ecology.(2)the results of panel model Ifound that per capita GDP,population density,area of built-up land,elevation and fiscal expenditure have the significant influence on urban green space coverage,however,two of natural variables(average annual precipitation,average annual temperature)and both of variables on behalf of administrate ranks(MUNICIPALITY and SubPROVINCE)have no effect on green space coverage.Compared with the influent coefficients among different variables,the force of socio-economic variables surpass administrate and natural variables.(3)the results of panel model I demonstrated that interaction existed between the different variables,the increase of per capita GDP can overcome the limit of natural condition(e.g.elevation),meanwhile there is significant moderate effect between per capita GDP and fiscal expenditure.The study could provide the new prospects for the government and city planner to plan,construct and manage urban green space,which could improve sustainable development,fully create the ecological-social-economic benefits and satisfy the residents' environmental appeals.
