Study On The Renewal Of Yaocan Pavilion And Its Surrounding Spaces In Tai’an City

The city of Tai’an,which is located at the foot of Mount Tai,is intertwined with the surroundings.Especially,Yaocan Pavilion covering an area about 28655 square meters is close to a central location of the urban area,which is next to a major thoroughfare named Dongyue Street on the south,Yangsheng Street on the east and Daixi Street on the west.Therefore,as the vestibular building,Yaocan Pavilion takes a critical part in the cultural history of Mount Tai and contributes irreplaceably to Tai’an and its unique culture.Recently,the environmental stress of Yaocan Pavilion and its surroundings have been increasingly serious on account of the disorderly development of urban construction.The contradiction between Yaocan Pavilion and urban morphology is prominent which cannot meet the exact requirement of city development.There is a major issue of heavy traffic in the Dongyue Street caused by a fascination historical relic termed as Shuanglong Pond.In addition,the square area of Yaocan Pavilion has been separated from the east to the west sides which makes this complete part severely fragmented.Hence,these urgent environmental issues of Yaocan Pavilion and its surroundings need to be addressed.From the perspective of site survey,the optimal idea to solve the problem of environment update is landscape design.This study starts with the history of Dai Temple and Yaocan Pavilion through the organisation and analysis of document literatures to realize the transformation of land uses including the road traffic,spatial arrangement and culture reflected.Firstly,the area of Shuanglong Pond in Dongyue Street bends to the south to protect this part and alleviate traffic jams.Secondly,a design of the historic cultural square of Yaocan Pavilion will efficiently blend space to make this area more complete.Thirdly,courtyard walls and side rooms of Yaocan Pavilion should be dismantled to highlight the axis of history and culture of Mount Tai.At last,this design would discover the traditional culture through multiple aspects of researches including landscape elements,folk culture,residents’ behavior and place spirit.Besides,many distinctive elements are used to reflect the regional culture such as Taishan shadow play and figure reliefs.This current design of the update of Yaocan Pavilion and its surroundings contributes to the adaption of this part to the development of urban space,including traffic optimization,spatial integration and culture reflected,in order to provide a comfortable square with rich variety of spaces and promote the geographical identification and culture characteristic.
