The problem of large steel production and low utilization at the present stage in China needs urgent attention,taking the bridge project as an example,the development of steel bridge structure in our country started late compared with developed countries such as Europe and America.This paper believes that one of the main reasons for restricting its development is the limitation of Chinese steel bridge structural design code.For this point of view,this article will thoroughly study the Chinese steel bridge code.Through consulting data,it was found that the "European Structural Code" is the most widely used and most representative code in the bridge engineering industry.Therefore,the main research object of this paper is Chinese "Specifications For Design of Highway Steel Bridge " and "EN 1993-2,Eurocode 3: Design of steel structures-Part 2: Steel Bridge".This paper mainly compares the two sets of codes in China and Europe for general design principles,material design standards,structural design analysis,and connectors,summarized the similarities and differences between the two sets of codes,referring to the example of the Dadu River Bridge in Yakang highway,according to the different provisions of the two sets of codes,using finite element software Midas Civil to model.To verify the veracity and correctness of the conclusions,hand-calculation and simulation calculations are used to check the strength,deflection,integrality and local stability of the bridge.Through verification,the conclusions presented in this paper are basically true and reliable.As research indicates,in terms of general design principles,the requirements of Chinese and European codes are generally similar.Chinese codes mainly use total probability limit method,semi-probability limit method,safety factor method,etc.The relevant calculation parameters and partial factors in the formulas of European codes can be estimated by the engineers' experience in practical engineering.In terms of material definition,the main difference between the codes of China and Europe is that the strength of the steels specified by the Chinese codes is lower than that of the steels of the same European standards,and European codes additionally specify two high-strength steels.The European code is divided into four - curves according to the different classifications of tensile yield and strain hardening,and the calculation process of the finite element design method is introduced.The study of structural design analysis shows that there are no significant difference between the European and Chinese codes in structural modeling,and the design concept is basically the same.For the regulations of the vertical deflection limit,Chinese code uses different limits for different types of bridges,and the European code only gives a general definition of all applicable limits.In the design of stability,the basic ideas of the two sets of codes are the same,and the stability of compressive bar is taken as the calculation basis of the overall stability.The stability of the thin plate is used as the basis for the calculation of the local stability.Lead into the stability coefficient as a calculation reference.However,the European code divides the cross section into four categories and applies it throughout the stability design.The Chinese code gives four stability coefficient curves,and the European code gives five curves,and through derivation,each has proposed a formula for calculating the stability coefficient.In the connection design,the two sets of codes are generally consistent,but in general the European code is more detailed.As for the classification of bolts,the European code classification is more detailed and the specification in Chinese code is relatively simple.In the regulation of the spacing of rivets,the limits of Chinese code are generally greater than the European code in various locations.In the calculation of welding,Chinese code requires the use of a stress reduction method if the weld directly bearing dynamic loads,and if the weld is subjected to static and indirect live loads,the single stress method is used.However,the European code adopts the method of stress reduction in all cases.
