With the development of global industry,the contradiction between growing demand for energy and rising of fossil energy becoming increasingly acute.Therefore,exploring new sources of energy,make full use of renewable energy and make new energy storage in time become the key problem of the society further development.The battery act as the main equipments of energy storage and application,can make a big difference in the new clean energy area.Among the plenty of rechargeable battery,the lead-acid battery(LAB)has been one of the main secondary electrochemical power sources with wide application in various fields(transport vehicles,telecommunications,information technologies,Uninterrupted Power Supply(UPS)etc.)because of it's material source abundance,sample product process and low cost.However,the failure of the LAB not only causes the capacity loss and short lifetime,but also leads to serious energy,environmental and safety problems.Hence,the failure of LAB becomes the key barrier for its further development and application.Therefore,understanding the failure modes and mechanism of LAB is of great significance.This paper focus on analysis the failure modes and mechanisms of LAB,including the positive and negative electrodes,also other failure modes were be included.By electrochemical test of the LAB and teardown analysis,understanding the reasons of battery failure.What's more,based on the outcome of the study,we did some experiment on the new type of LAB,lead-carbon battery(LCB),which can suppress the negative electrode failure effectively and prolong the battery cycle life.Therefore facilitate the development of LAB.This paper investigation focus on the follow two aspects:(1)At first,electrochemical test process,including high-rate partial state of charge(HRPSoC)test,deep depth of discharge,high temperature cycle life test and common cycle lifetime test.The performance of the LAB will be examined effectively by these test program.Also by comparing the change and difference of positive/negative electrode,AGM separator and electrolyte,the reason of battery failure will be clearly understand.Finally a report relate to the failure mode and mechanism of LAB will be submitted to provide guidance for further application of LAB.(2)Based on the preliminary study,carbon was been added to the negative electrode and assembled LCB to suppress the irreversible sulfation.The problem of negative electrodes can be inhibited effectively by optimizating the content of carbon.Thus can provide theoretical and experimental support for the future application of LCB.
