With the user’s demand for the product toward a personalized,diversified direction,car manufacturers take a mass customization strategy and product family methodology.As a key technology for mass customization,product configuration is mainly based on the product family modeling and people can achieve variant design of products through assembly of similar modules of Bills of Material.However,there is no BOM similarity metric in domestic vehicle enterprises generally,and product family management is not formed.Thus,product configuration isn’t effectively utilized.At the same time,with the increase of similar BOM,it will cause duplication and redundancy of BOM,thus making a certain difficulty in the products data maintenance.Accordingly,the similarity metric of BOM is imminent.On one hand,the similarity measure of BOM can provide technical support for product family management,as well as theoretical basis for product configuration.On the other hand,the commonness research of product BOM is conducive to the reuse of historical product data and the orderly management of it.Product configuration is the designing process of product BOM.And some correlative researches on the similarity metric of design Bills of Material are developed.(1)The design BOM’s similarity of vehicle products is defined through BOM tree model.And a traversal and storage method of BOM parts for BOM similarity measurement is proposed at the same time.(2)Similarity System Theory is introduced as the method to measure BOM similarity;and three extensions of Similarity System Theory are given from BOM’s hierarchical,nonsimilarity effects on the similarity of systems and the weight of the similarity to systems according to the engineering of BOM.(3)Based on the extended Similarity System Theory,the process of BOM similarity measurement is analyzed.A similarity metric algorithm of vehicle products’ design BOM is proposed,and the relevant contents of the algorithm are supplemented.(4)According to the theoretical research results of the similarity metric on vehicle products’ design BOM,a software module of similarity metric on vehicle products’ design BOM is developed on an enterprise BOM system platform.And through application of this software module,the feasibility and effectiveness of this study is verified.
