The booming modern vehicle industry has significantly improved the performance and quality of the vehicles,and vehicles are used to run in high speed more and more frequently due to the growing building of motorways.The orientation parameter of wheels impacts the steering and security performance directly.Usually,after produced,normally designed vehicles will be measured by four-wheel alignment instrument for amending the referred parameters to meet design requirements.However,some vehicles of those which are redesigned or driven too much time may couldn`t be amended well if the four-wheel orientation parameters go wrong,so it is necessary to seek for a new measuring method to find the reasons why the errors appear and how to repair it.This paper mainly introduces a new measuring method of four-wheel orientation parameters and the way of adjusting the errors.It is convenient to take the advantage of portable three coordinate measuring machines to check errors of four-wheel orientation parameter when the parameters are not able to be adjusted correctly or the structure of the vehicles is not available for adjusting.It needs to build vehicle suspensions model and measure the hard-spot and space-spot of the suspensions.When the distance between the suspensions is too long for portable three coordinate measuring machines,in order to analyze the errors of four-wheel orientation,it needs to expand the scale of measurement(leapfrog method)to connect the suspensions in the same coordinate system,and then transfer the data into space-spot and line feature through character fitting and find the points which diverge from the designed hard-spot the most.It is fast and convenient to check the errors of hard-spot out according to this method in spite of checking the parts quality and vehicle hard-spot one by one.This method is mainly used on trial vehicles in initial research or those which suspensions are deformed because of being driven too much and it works significantly as auxiliary function.
