As one of the precious timber species and landscaping species, Phoebe bournei is an endemic species and protected as a vulnerable plant in China. Its natural wild resources suffered the serious damage. This study sets the experiments of mulching and different site conditions on P..bournei young tree, and analyzes the response of its growth on site condition. The results would provide the technical supports for planting P. bournei forest and its utilization. The main results were as follows:(1) At the beginning of transplanting, effects of black film mulching on the height annual growth, stem and canopy growth of the 3-year-old bare root seedling by cutting its stem were not distinctly. It was showed that black film mulching had nosignificant effecton P. bournei's root recovery growth. However, the high growth of the third year of P. bournei was affected by mulching significantly. The height growth of trees which have no black film mulching was significantly greater than those trees had black film mulching. The basal diameter and crown of black film mulching trees were slightly larger than those with no black film mulching. It was showed that black film mulching had begun to inhibit the growth of plant height and it was meaningless to the growth of P. bournei trees.(2)Different Site conditions had significant effect on annual growth, diameter growth and crown growth of 3 years-bare root transplant chipping and 2 years- container seedlings transplanting P. bournei young forest. Annual growth, diameter growth and crown of trees in humid short light environment were significantly greater than that of trees in the whole light environment. And it was showed that humid short light environment was better suited to the survival and growth of P. bournei in the early of their transplanting. Humid short light environment is more suitable to the demand for light and moisture in the early growth of young forest. This phenomenon is associated with the tolerance to shading of P. bournei and light-sensitive of plants when the new leaves new branch Sprouting. The more the light weaker and shorter, the more conducive to growth of leaves and branches, and this can be able to promote the recovery and growth of the crown of the P. bournei.(3) In different site conditions, the effects on high growth in successive height and crown width of the bare undercut rod transplanting 12 years of P. bournei trees were without significant difference. Their height annual growth and crown growth in humid short light environment were slightly better than those in full light environment. The incremental annual growth rings of P. bournei treeswere studied through nearly 10 years pith and growth regression curve were drew too. The annual height growth of P. bournei trees in humid short light environment was more faster than those in full light environment from the sixth year. And the difference between them was significantly. It is showed that humid short light environment can promote plant growth and can speed up the recovery of the growth of plants in the early transplantation. However, the light requirement intensity of P. bournei trees was increased and the positive arbor instinct of them were also showed gradually.
