Screening Of Fresh Aroma Variety Of Tobacco In Yunnan

To screen tobacco varieties which are uniquely suitable for Yunnan with typical fresh aroma quality, seven varieties were grown in five ecological areas, including Yuxi Huaning, Qujing Shizong, Dali Midu, Honghe Jianshui and Puer Ninger. These seven varieties are K326, Yunyan 87, Yunyan 105, Yunyan 110, PVH1452, Yunyan 116 and Yunyan 202, and the first two were used as control. Comparative analysis was performed on agronomic traits, disease resistance, economic traits, chemical component and quality type. Results are as follows:Environment, variety and their interaction significantly affect the agronomic traits, economic traits and chemical components of tobacco. Agronomic traits include plant height, leaf number, stem girth, nodal distance, lumbar leaf length and width. Economic traits include yield, fine tobacco ratio, average price and value of output. Chemical components include total sugar, reducing sugar, total nitrogen, nicotine, chlorine, starch, potassium and polyphenol. Variance analysis of variation sources demonstrates that environment shows stronger effect on major agronomic traits, economic traits and eight chemical components than variety or the interaction between variety and environment. The interaction shows stronger effect on leaf number, four economic traits and six major chemical components than variety, which is opposite on other agronomic traits, nicotine and potassium content. Consequently, environment is the key factor affecting agronomic traits, economic traits and chemical components of tobacco.According to the comparative analysis, variety adaptability and leaf quality index, tested varieties were evaluated comprehensively. Yunyan 116 is the typical fresh aroma variety with high yield, strong adaptability, harmonious chemical composition and unique sensory quality. Yunyan 105 shows similar characteristic with Yunyan 116. These two varieties together with Yunyan87 and K326 can be used as proper varieties for fresh aroma in Yunnan. PVH145 and Yunyan 110 possess good sensory quality and typical fresh aroma, however, poor yield and adaptability, can be used as candidate varieties. Yunyan 202 is not proper for fresh aroma because of poor yield, adaptability and sensory quality.Finally, Yunyan 116 and Yunyan 105 were screened as typical fresh aroma varieties in this study. Our result can provide clues to improve the fresh aroma tobacco development in different ecological areas of Yunnan.
