In order to selecting and breeding high yield and good quality of Bothriochloa ischaemumvarieties and promoting the husbandry development of Shanxi province and nationwide, four B.ischaemum populations of Shanxi was selected to observing the growth stages, overwintering ratio, yield and nutrient contents of different growth stages in the second year of cultivation in the experiment field of Shanxi agricultural university. Results as fellows:(1) Different populations of B. ischaemum couldoverwintering safely in this region, and their overwintering ratio were between 96.84%-97.78%, all of them had strong adaptability in this region. The stem-leaf ratio of Taigu population was better than others, which accounted for that the palatability and use value of Taigu population are better than other populations.(2) Different populations of B. ischaemum could could complete the entire growth periods in the second year of cultivation in the study area. Their growth periods were 147?151d from recovery stage to mature stage. The growth of Pingding population was shorter and Pinglu population was longer than others.(3) The fresh yield and hay yield of four B. ischaemum populations had significant difference. The fresh yield and hay yield of Taigu population were 26.89 t·hm-2 and 9.83 t·hm-2, respectively, which were higher than other populations, and Pingding population were 24.77 t·hm-2 and 9.56 t·hm-2, respectively. The yield of Taigu and Pingding populations had no significant difference, but they had significant difference with Dai county and Pinglu populations.(4) The. nutrient content of different growth periods of four B. ischaemum populations had significant difference, and there were significant difference between the different growth stage of same B. ischaemum populations. The nutrient content of CP, EE, Ash, Ca and P was gradually decreased as the growth of four B. ischaemum populations from recovery stage to mature stage, while the content of NDF and ADF was gradually increased. From the test results, we known that the nutritional quality of jointing stage of four B. ischaemum populations was best, and the nutrient content of jointing stage was CP 8.89%?10.23%, NDF 65.57%?67.29%, ADF35.99%?38.74%, EE 2.03%?2.63%, Ash 8.82%?9.77%, Ca 0.44%?0.49% and P 0.21%?0.27%, respectively. In summary, the nutritional value of Taigu population was higher than other populations and had the best performance.(5) Comprehensive analysis showed that Taigu population had significant advantage and great potential for establishing.
