According to the problems of the volume of a larger structure, single function and joint operation and adaptability of topography of southern tobacco region that are not strong of current tobacco stem pulling device, a compact structure, convenient operation, strong joint operation and suitable for southern tobacco region stem pulling and stump cutting device was designed. It is an important part of achieving full mechanization of Southern tobacco production, which is important to improve the production efficiency and reduce the labor intensity and cost.In this paper, the topography of southern tobacco region, tobacco planting pattern and agronomic requirements were studied, and the physical and mechanical properties of mature tobacco stem were measured and tested, and its average height, diameter, mass,-average diameter of stem clamping parts, average diameter of stump cutting parts, axial tensile force and tensile strength of tobacco stem clamping parts, radial crushing force and compressive strength of tobacco stem clamping parts, bending force and flexural strength of stump cutting parts and friction coefficient between tobacco stem and steel were obtained. A clamping and cutting combination stem pulling and stump cutting program was proposed, and its virtual prototype model was established by using PRO/E software, and the structure of its key parts was designed and calculated, at the same time the kinematics and dynamics models of device were established in the process of stem pulling and stump cutting.In this paper, the tobacco stem-stem pulling and stump cutting device was established, and the logistics process of virtual test of tobacco stem clamping extrator and stump cutting process was analyzed, and tobacco stem clamping point displacement, velocity, acceleration, variation characteristics of tobacco stem clamping were obtained, force circular saw cutter displacement, velocity, acceleration, change regulation of move and stay track were obtained, also the change regulation of cutting force between tobacco stem and circular saw cutter in the process of stump cutting.By the preliminary validation test, problems of the stem pulling and stump cutting device were improved. Based on the improvements, single factor experiments and multi-factor orthogonal experiments were carried out, and the optimal combination of levels of each factor which affected the effect of stem pulling and stump cutting was determined, that was when the velocity of double clamping and conveying chain was 0.8m/s, advancing velocity of machine is 0.6m/s, clamping gap is 12mm, the effect of stem pulling and stump cutting was the best.
