Taking the P.pratensis and K.macrantha as control, this article observes the physio-ecological characteristics and turf quality of S.bungeana and S.breviflora under cultivation condition in the two growing seasons from 2014 to 2015.Drought resistance of these four different spices of plants under continuous drought was compared, and the adaptive characteristic of them with different ratio of soil and sand was analyzed in the major part of this article. Finally the turf value of S.bungeana and S.breviflora was estimated by integrating appearance quality and ecological quality. The conclusions were as following:Firstly,it is K.macrantha and P.pratensis that has longer green stage periods of two ages than S.bungeana and S.breviflora whose green stage periods of two ages were 217 and 218 days in Hohhot. The maximum height, leaf width, compensatory growth ability and spike rate of S.bungeana were significantly higher than those of S.breviflora, while maximum number of vegetative tillers of S.bungeana was lower. However there was no significant difference in seed yield between these two plants. The daily change of net photosynthetic rate of S.bungeana,K.macrantha and P.pratensis presented bimodal curve, whereas the unimodal curve for S.breviflora.The daily average net photosynthetic rate of S.breviflora were higher than those three significantly and daily average net photosynthetic rate of S.bungeana was higher than that of P.pratensis.There was no significant difference among K.macrantha,S.bungeana and S.breviflora, when comparing daily average transpiration rates and daily average leaf water potential, and all of these figures were lower than those of P.pratensis significantly. The daily average instant water use efficiency of P.pratensis was lower than other three plants evidently, the daily average instant water use efficiency of S.breviflora was higher than that of S.bungeana.Secondly,the order of tolerance range of soil moisture of these four kinds of plants could be sorted as:P.pratensis<K.macrantha≈S.bungeana<S.breviflora.The survival time under continuous drought of S.breviflora and S.bungeana was longer than P.pratensis significantly. The daily average transpiration rate of S.breviflora,S.bungeana and K.macrantha was significantly lower than P.pratensis with 51.83%、47.14%and 41.64%respectively before temporary wilting. The soil water use efficiency had no major difference between S.breviflora and S.bungeana with 80.08%averagely which were higher than that of P.pratensis and K.macrantha significantly.the experiment showed that the drought resistance of S.breviflora was the strongest, followed by S.bungeana,K.macrantha and P.pratensis.Thirdly,there were no momentous effects on physio-ecological characteristics of S.breviflora under different ratio of soil and sand. The height, tiller numbers, total biomass,above-ground biomass and daily average net photosynthetic rate of S.bungeana and the tiller numbers, total biomass,above-ground biomass and under-ground biomass of P.pratensis were reduced significantly under the soil of sediment concentration of 100%,respectively.S.bungeana had presented well growth and development under the soil of sediment concentration less than 70%.P.pratensis,however,was more suitable for survival under lower sediment concentration. The leaf water potential had no significant difference between S.breviflora and S.bungeana and were lower than P.pratensis when temporary wilting occurred under every kinds of soil.As the soil of sediment concentration is less than 90%,total minimum irrigation of these two spices were lower than P.pratensis.It was evidently that S.breviflora had the strongest sand resistance, followed by S.bungeana and P.pratensis.According to the research result of this article, the comprehensive evaluation results could be demonstrated as:there was the best turf value for S.breviflora, which was higher than those three kinds of plants. The turf value of S.bungeana and K.macrantha were almost the same, which were slightly higher than P.pratensis.
