Liquidambar formosana,commonly known as the Chinese sweet gum or Formosan gum,is a species of tree in the family Altingiaceae native to East Asia.In this study,we investigated the physiological and biochemical mechanisms of leaf colorization of four L.formosana families under different environmental conditions and different lower temperature or spectrum light treatments to provide guidance for the breeding of colored-leaf trees and future application of L.formosana.1.The results showed that leaf of L.formosana was gradually changed from green to red or dark red during the experiment.In addition,the change of leaf color of 4 L.fomosana families were showed significant difference.The chlorophyll content of L.formosana was decreased during the experiment in a whole.The changing trend of chlorophyll a,chlorophyll b and carotenoid were similar to the total chlorophyll content.The anthocyanin content was increased significantly.The content of soluble sugar in L.formosana increased at different degree.The correlation analysis showed that the anthocyanin content was positive correlated to the soluble sugar content.However,the anthocyanin content was negative correlated to the chlorophyll content,average temperature,and average humidity.The changes of chlorophyll content,carotenoid,anthocyanin,soluble sugar and red area of the leaves were showed difference significantly between families and different environmental conditions.The change of leaf color of different L.formosana families showed the different tendency under the different environmental conditions,while the significant difference of the change of leaf color under the same condition was also observed.Temperature difference and the change of pigment ratio in the leaves were resulted the change of leaf color.2.The change of leaf color of 2 L.formosana families showed the same trend under the different low temperature treatment.Chlorophyll concentration was negatively correlated with temperature,while the concentration of anthocyanin was positively correlated with temperature.In short,low temperature could induced the leaf color changed significantly.The biosynthesis pathway of 2 families might be different,which as one of reasons causing 2 families with different color performance under low temperature environments.3.The change of leaf color of 2 L.formosana families showed the same trend under the different spectrum light treatments,the red light treatment can promote the synthesi(?)of chlorophyll;however,the concentration of anthocyanin in blue light treatment wa(?)higher than that in other spectrum light treatments.During the experiment,the leaf col(?)of 2 L.formosana families had no significant difference.
