Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn.,a multipurpose tree species,is ornamental, officinal and beneficial for environmental protection, which is a important potential source. But because of undeveloped seedling technique, plants specification is uneven and plants quality is bad,so it is hard to meet requirements for intensive management in modern forestry. In this thesis, seed viability, seed dormancy, germination characteristics, and metabolism of storage substance at the beginning of storage of Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn.seeds were studied to supply theoretical basis for seedling production. The results showed:1.The teterazelium test can check the viability Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn.seeds correctly and quickly. The appropriate way is: breaking seed coat along hilum firstly, then absorbing water for 48 h to get whole embryos, lastly staining them in 0.5% TTC at 35? for 5h.2.The results of imbibition and germination showed: when imbibition finished, the moisture contents of complete seeds and seeds with broken seed coat had not significant difference. There was no physical obstacle of Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn.seeds.But temperature caused sharp differences. The optimal temperature of germination was 35?,when in 30 days, effective germination percentage was 95%.And the seeds had not dormancy.3.At the beginning of seed germination, the changes of reserve materials showed that sugar and protein were utilized firstly, then starch. When at 30?and 35?,the contents of soluble sugar and soluble protein were obviously higher than its 25?at the beginning of seed germination from the 4th day to the 5th day.Temperature had significant influences to amylase of seed, and if temperature rose, the activity of amylase enhanced and when it was up to 35?,the activity reached peak.During the seed germination,?-amylase activity was always higher than ?-amylase,which showed the starch of Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn.seeds was hydrolyzed by ?-amylase mostly. And when on the 2nd day of seed germination, the activity of ?-amylase was increased quickly at 30?and 35?,but when at 25?,the activity of ?-amylase was decreased fast, which showed the activity of ?-amylase had key effects to the growth of radicle.
