The Effects Of Perilla Seed And Eucommia Ulmoides Oliv. Extracts On Growth Performance And Meat Quality Of Ningxiang Pigs

This research was designed to study the effects of Perilla Seed and Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.extracts on growth performance and meat quality of Ningxiang pigs.The single factor completely random experiment was introduced to this experiment.Forty-eight growing pigs with similar background,age and body weight about 40 kg(P >0.05)were selected and randomly divided into four groups,four repetitions for each group,3 pigs for one repetition.The experimental protocol was approved by the national standards(GB/T 2773-2008)of Ningxiang pigs.Each group were respectively fed a basal diet,1500 mg/kg Perilla seed extracts,1500 mg/kg Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.extracts,and 750 mg/kg from Perilla seed and Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.extracts,as control group,group Ⅱ,group Ⅲ,group Ⅳ,respectively.The experiment lasted for 56 days.At the last day,these pigs were slaughtered for the collection of blood and tissues.The results are following: Part 1 The effects of extracts from Perilla seed and Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.on growth performance and carcass qualities of Ningxiang pigsCompared to the control group,the effects of Perilla seeds and Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.extracts on average daily gain and average daily feed intake were not significant(P>0.05);the slaughter rate of group II was slightly increased by 0.76%,the areas of eye muscle of the group Ⅲ and group Ⅳ were improved by 2.17%,10.8%,and group Ⅱ significantly increased by 21.77%(P<0.05);the thicknesses of back fat of the group Ⅱ,Ⅲ and Ⅳ were decreased by 11.10%,22.15%,7.75%,respectively;and the percentages of lean of group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ increased by 1.39% and 8.27%,respectively.Part 2 The effects of extractions from Perilla Seed and Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.on blood parameters of Ningxiang pigsCompared with control group,the contents of urea,triglyceride(TC)and glucose in serum of the test groups were decreased,but there was no significant difference(P> 0.05).Part 3 The effects of extractions from Perilla Seed and Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.on meat qualities of Ningxiang pigsCompared to the control group,the content of intramuscular fat in group Ⅱ was extremely significantly raised(P<0.01),and γ-linolenic acid in the liver in group Ⅲ was extremely significantly increased by 122.22%(P<0.01).The results indicates that the additions of the extractions from Perilla Seed and Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.have no significant effects on the growth performances of Ningxiang pigs,but are benefit to improve the meat qualities of Ningxiang pigs.the area of the eye muscle was significantly increased by the supplementation with 1500 mg/kg of Perilla extract;and the contents of urea nitrogen,triglyceride and blood sugar in the serum of the pig serum were reduced by the addition of Perilla Seed and Eucommia in the diet;And muscle crude fat content of fattening Ningxiang pig was significantly improved by the addition with 1500 mg/kg of Perilla Seed extract,the content of polyunsaturated fatty acid gamma linolenic acid in liver was significantly improved by the addition with 1500 mg/kg Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.extract.
