| Objective: 1. Based on the current market products specifications investigation of paeoniae radix alba and the system quality evaluation studies of collected samples,in order to be able to work out a more reasonable product specifications division method of paeoniae radix alba. 2. Explore the scientific basis for traditional grading methods of paeoniae radix alba in bozhou, namely different specification grade intrinsic chemical composition differences of paeoniae radix alba and to seek the uniform and harmonious methods between “ identifying from appearances ” gradation index and “on qualitative ” gradation index. 3. On the basis of the market survey, combined with appearance index and internal index(chemical composition) of paeoniae radix alba in bozhou, explore “ identifying from appearances and on qualitative ” scientific connotation of paeoniae radix alba in bozhou. 4. To set up an HPLC fingerprint of paeoniae radix alba in bozhou, characterization of the material basis for medicinal parts of paeoniae radix alba in bozhou, contributing to the harvest and quality control of paeoniae radix alba. 5. Through the study about products specifications of paeoniae radix alba in bozhou, to provide reference for the future established other chinese herbal medicines “high price for good quality” management approach way.Methods: 1. Through the “ on qualitative”analysis of paeoniae radix alba in bozhou, four monoterpene glycoside content, TGP content, starch content and extract content of paeoniae radix alba were analyzed and compared, obtain the result that starch content and“ identifying from appearances” gradation have a good correlation,so regard starch of paeoniae radix alba as gradation index and divide paeoniae radix alba in bozhou into three grades, namely the first grade product starch content is not less than 68%,the paeoniae average content is 3.84%; second grade product starch content is between55% and 68%,the paeoniae average content is 3.50%; third grade product starch content is less than 55%,the paeoniae average content is 3.31%. 4. Comprehensive“ identifying from appearances”and“ on qualitative” gradation index, the paeoniae radix alba in bozhou is divided into three grades, namely the first grade product section with enough granular powder, texture is not less than 1.48 g/cm3, starch content is not less than 68%,the paeoniae average content is 3.84%; second grade product section with generel granular powder, texture is between 1.19 g/cm3 and 1.48 g/cm3, starch content is between 55% and 68%,the paeoniae average content is 3.50%; third grade product section with deficiency granular powder, texture less than 1.19 g/cm3, starch content is less than 55%,the paeoniae average content is 3.31%. 5. An HPLC fingerprint of paeoniae radix alba has been established, which contained 10 common peaks. The similarity of the HPLC chromatograms of 10 batches of samples were greater than 0.98.Conclusion: 1. The established method for determination of starch of paeoniae radix alba in bozhou is accurate and reliable, to some extent, reveals the scientific connotation of “granular powder”description of the paeoniae radix alba in bozhou.2. The method that make TGP and starch of the paeoniae radix alba as index to determine the optimal harvesting and growth years of the paeoniae radix alba in bozhou is reasonable and feasible,there is a guiding significance to harvest the paeoniae radix alba. 3. The HPLC fingerprint method of this test is simple and stable,and it provides a scientific basis for the harvest and products specifications quality control and of paeoniae radix alba in bozhou. 4.
