Inula salsoloides (Turcz.) Ostenf. Belongs to the genus of Inula, Compositae. It's also called "Jiaoqupa, Liaozipu" in Chinese and it was born at altitude of 500-2000m arid grassland, desert area of Gobi beach, sand flow, fixed sand dune, river alluvial, aeolian sand and hill top of loess plateau. It has a wide distribution in Western Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaan'xi, Gansu, northern and eastern of Qinghai, Xinjiang and other regions in China. The Inula salsoloides (Turcz.) Ostenf can be used for medicine. It has the efficacy of heat clearing and detoxifying, promoting diuresis detumescence, for the treatment of headaches; enteritis; dysentery; edema; urination carbuncle; swollen boils; impetigo; eczema and other disease. In recent years research found that it has effect on anti-tumor, lowering blood sugar, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective showed certain biological activity. And the sesquiterpene lactones in this plant show significant insecticidal activity.We choose Inula salsoloides (Turcz.) Ostenf grass which collected from Yulin city of Shaanxi province as the research object in this research. The chemical investigation of this plant resulted in the isolation of 17 compounds by a variety of chromatography methods, such as silica gel, MCI CHP-20P, Sephadex LH-20, and the compounds structure were established on the basis of spectroscopic data including UV, ESI-MS, NMR spectroscopy (13C-NMR,1H-NMR,1H-1HCOSY, HMBC, HMQC), physical and chemical properties. Including one monoterpenoid:cis-1-p-Menthene-3,6-diol (IS-1); twelve sesquiterpene lactone compounds (including a new compound):Budlein.B (IS-2), 1-Cyclodecene-2,5,6,9-tetrol,l,8-dimethyl-7-(1-methylethyl)-,[(2?,5?,6?,7?,8?,9?)] (IS-3), 4?,5?-Epoxyeupatolide (IS-4), Inulasalsolide (IS-5),4?,5?-Epoxy-8?-hydroxy-14-oxoacanth-ospermolide (IS-6), Ovatifolin (IS-10), Inulasalsolin (IS-11),4?,5?-Epoxyovatifolin (IS-12), Inulasalsolide B (IS-13), Eupatolide (IS-14), 11?,13-dihydrogen Eupatolide (IS-15), A new compound (IS-16),one flavonoid:Apigenin (17) and three steroidal compounds; ?-sitosterol) (IS-7), Stigmasterol (IS-8), Daucosterol (IS-9).Based on the previous work of the separation, a HPLC method was firstly developed to analyze 7 compounds isolated from Inula salsoloides, including six sesquiterpene lactones and a flavonoid. Then using the standard curve method to determine their contents in two different batch of Inula salsoloides. This method has good reproducibility, high accuracy and it is easy to operation. This work provides a reference for the study on Inula genus plant'schemical composition, and it has important significance on the development and utilization of the sesquiterpene compounds.
